The airport’s passenger traffic during June almost reached two million passengers (1.96), exceeding the respective 2015 levels by four percent. According to AIA, last month the airport handled 1,956,610 passengers, compared to 1,882,093 in 2015. Photo source: AIA Both domestic and international passengers demonstrated similar levels of increase of 3.9 percent and four percent respectively. Domestic passengers reached 687,027 against 661,003 in June 2015, while foreign passengers reached 1,269,583 compared to 1,221,090 in the same month last year. Greek travellers increased by 21 percent, whereas foreign visitors presented a marginal decline of -3 percent, a drop attributed to the reduction of foreigners’ domestic trips. Overall, during the first half of the year, the airport’s passenger traffic reached 8.68 million, equaling an increase of 8.9 percent, with domestic passengers growing by 13.1 percent and international travellers by 6.5 percent. More flights Photo source: AIA The number of flights at AIA during the January-June period amounted to 85,242 (from 79,957 the same period last year), recording an increase of 6.6 percent. Both domestic flights and international flights increased by 7.1 percent and 6.2 percent respectively. In June alone, 18,745 flights were performed over 18,009 during the same month last year (an increase of 4.1 percent). The domestic network saw a 2.6 percent increase in flights, while flights in the international network rose by 5,2 percent.
