Santorini Sets Sights on Boosting Enotourism with October Congress

Set to become one of the world’s fine wine tourism destinations, the Greek island of Santorini will host the 1st Wine Tourism Congress (IMIC 2016) on October 14-16 at the Petros M Nomikos Conference Center in Firostefani.

santorini_wine tourism_3Organized by IMIC Conferences with the support of the University of the Aegean and the University of South Australia, the two-day event brings together experts in the area of tourism and wine in efforts to inform of the challenges, changing trends but also on how to tap into this highly evolving tourism sector.

Topics to be covered include design, development and marketing of the wine tourism product, promotion and branding, customer relationship management (CRM) and social media networking, role of mobile technologies and Geographical Positioning Systems (GPS) in the development of wine tourism, authenticity, experiences and experiential dimensions of wine tourism, enotourism networks and synergies with other special forms of tourism as well as best practices.

The event will be held under the auspices of the Thera Municipality, Wines of Greece and the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE). Speakers include honorary chairman and Thessaloniki Mayor Yiannis Boutaris, who is also an acclaimed winemaker himself, University of the Aegean Professor in Tourism Paris Tsartas and enologist Yannis Vogiatzis, president of the National Inter-professional Organization for Vine and Wine (EDOAO).
