The “Better Holidays, Better World 2015-2020” study assesses Tui Group’s progress thus far and its commitment to managing its impact on the economy, society and the environment. The action plan, to be implemented into 2020, aims to work towards a better understanding of sustainable tourism practices as well as improving and innovating on existent methods and habits. “The strategy includes ambitions by 2020, to cut the carbon intensity of its airline, cruise and ground operations by a further 10 percent, deliver 10 million ‘greener and fairer’ holidays per year and invest 10 million euros per year to support good causes and enhance the positive impacts of tourism,” Tui Group said. In Greece, meanwhile, the group operates an office on Crete, which is the first Greek enterprise to receive Travelife sustainability certification while TUI Destination Services Greece and the Robinson Club Daidalos on the island of Kos are working together within the International Dual Mentoring Program (MENDI), which provides learning to the catering and accommodation sector. “The progress achieved in the first year of our strategy has been encouraging. We are determined to maintain momentum and to continue to invest in opportunities that tourism offers to people worldwide,” TUI Group CEO Fritz Joussen said. “The essence of our holiday promise is at stake: attractive destinations with unspoilt nature, thriving communities, enticing culture and healthy economies.” According to the report, over 5.6 million travelers stayed in hotels with “credible sustainability certifications” in 2015.
