Destinations news Hotel – Trade Bodies, Locals Say ‘No’ to Drug Rehab Center in Athens by GTP editing team 21 July 2016 written by GTP editing team 21 July 2016 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 11 Omonia Aquare, Athens. The Hellenic Chamber of Hotels and the Athens – Attica & Argosaronic Hotel Association have joined other trade bodies against a decision to re-install the Organization Against Drugs (OKANA) headquarters in the center of the Greek capital. In a joint statement released this week, the bodies and local community entities are calling on the government to recall the decision — which foresees the re-establishment of the central OKANA offices on Sophokleous St in the heart of Athens and three more rehab units across town — and to create a committee that will include their participation for a more viable solution. The bodies are saying OKANA’s previous operation in the city center was particularly troublesome for the daily life of residents and visitors, which is why it was transferred in 2012 to regional hospitals. Restoring OKANA facilities to the city center will negatively affect everyday life and weigh heavily on the tourist image of Athens, the statement said.
