The Dodecanese island of Rhodes is seeing tourism traffic gain momentum with a 9.15 percent increase in the number of incoming charter flights in June and an even greater rise expected for July.

A total of 40,067 visitors on charter flights came to the island on the weekend of July 16-17 alone.

Rhodes airport manager Xanthippe Kritsinelia told public broadcaster ERT Rhodes that she expects an increase of 4.5-6 percent for the month of July compared to the same month last year.

“This is a very large number of aircraft,” Kritsinelia said, “considering that the airport can accommodate 280 aircraft per day.”

Meanwhile, hotels on the island are completely booked for the month of July, according to the president of the Rhodes Hotel Managers Association, Giorgos Matsigos, who added that there are still some remaining vacancies on charter flights and at hotels which he expects will be covered by last-minute bookers.
