The Cycladic island’s first mountain running event takes place on October 2 and organizers are calling on amateur and professional athletes to register. One of the island’s biggest sporting events, the Andros Trail Race brings distinguished athletes and mountain running fans from around the world to its footpaths. Participants can chose to run the challenging 22km Great Route or the 10km Small Route as an introduction to mountain running. Future plans include the addition of new routes every year. Through the Andros Trail Race, event organizers aim to highlight the Cycladic island’s rich natural landscape, which includes everything from Venetian footpaths, monasteries and medieval castles to certified hiking trails, ravines and traditional villages, as well as its alternative tourism offerings. All races kick off at Korthi central square. Organisers are calling on runners to register here and have arranged discounts on ferry tickets, rental vehicles and accommodation for participants. There is also a full tour package available that includes transportation, accommodation, catering and race participation fee through RunninGreece. In the meantime, the Andros Trail Race is participating in the 1st mountain racing championship of the Cyclades, the Cyclades Trail Cup, which will bring together running events organizers under one umbrella in efforts to promote sports tourism across the Cyclades. The event is made possible with the support of local businesses and volunteers. The Greek Travel Pages (GTP) is a media sponsor of the Andros Trail Race.
