Destinations news South Aegean Region Sets Sights on Senior Travelers by GTP editing team 3 August 2016 written by GTP editing team 3 August 2016 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 9 As part of its ongoing strategy towards the expansion of the tourism season across the islands, the South Aegean Region is now focusing its efforts on the seasoned senior traveler with activities and events in Central and Northern Europe, including participation in this year’s international Senior Det Goda Livet expo in Stockholm. The South Aegean Region will be the “honored region” at the Senior exhibition, which will run October 18-20. Tapping into an impressively growing market, with data revealing that by 2030 senior travel will make up 24 percent of the world market and 28 percent by 2050, regional authorities are now relying on this niche market to “help” expand the tourist season across the islands as retirees are firstly not time-restricted and secondly seek more leisure and cultural travel activities including yachting, sailing, cruise travel and sightseeing. In this direction, the South Aegean Region is planning to draw up a specific strategy aiming to bring in senior travelers to Greece all year around, with the Dodecanese island of Rhodes at the epicenter of senior travel due to its advanced infrastructure and facilities as well as proximity to other islands.
