Culture Free August Full Moon Events Across Greece to Mesmerize by GTP editing team 16 August 2016 written by GTP editing team 16 August 2016 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 6 Not one or two but four days of free full moon fun are in store for visitors and locals across Greece in celebration of the August full moon on Thursday, with dozens of archaeological sites and museums including Athens’ Temple of Olympian Zeus, Cape Sounion, the castle town of Mystras and the once sacred island of Delos, opening their doors in true romantic fashion. A total of 116 archaeological sites country-wide will be open to the public on the nights of August 17, 18, 19 and 20 with concerts, theater and dance performances, guided tours, poetry readings, film screenings and art shows, organized by the Culture Ministry in celebration of this month’s full moon. Photo © TakB / Shutterstock More specifically, the Acropolis Museum will be hosting music events on Thursday (9pm) with the The Swingin’ Cats for some swing and more, and on Friday, August 19, a jazz ensemble will take the stage. The museum’s exhibitions will be open on both nights to midnight. Other events include recitals at Athens’ Numismatic Museum, the Thessaloniki Archaeological Museum, the site of Lato on Crete, the archaeological site of Philippi, the ancient site of Amphipolis, the old fort on Corfu, Ancient Olympia, the Archaeological Museum of Delphi, the archeological site of Eleusis, the Palamidi fortress in Nafplio and more (find out here).
