Photo © Georgios Alexandris, Shutterstock For 10 hours and 34 minutes, 15 improvisers, experimenters, composers of classical, jazz, electronic and traditional genres, vocalists, instrumentalists playing guitars, bass, flute, percussion, piano, sampling, kanonaki (kanun), cello, laptop, bagpipe, clarinet and percussion, will meet for the first time and jam their way into the composition of a wholly new musical work inspired by the compelling locale. In the heart of the island’s famed volcano, the musicians will meet tomorrow at dusk (7.58pm) and re-emerge 634 minutes later at dawn (6.32am) on August 19. The first-ever site-specific project in Greece, is both an innovative music project, but also a challenging test of endurance. With the full moon as their only source of light, the 15 artists will form a circle while performing their instrument of choice leaving and returning to the circle depending on their stamina while the evening’s musical work is in progress. The event is organized by the Onassis Cultural Centre and six d.o.g.s and held with the support of the Municipality of Nisyros. The participating artists are (in alphabetical order) Yiannis Anastasakis (Electric Guitar, Live Sampling), Taxiarhis Georgoulis (Oud), Tania Giannouli (Piano), Dead Gum (Electric Guitar, Electronics, Vocals), Michalis Kalkanis (Double Bass), KOSTADIS (Modular Electronics, DIY Contact Mic, Ribbon Devices, Vocals), Sofia Labropoulou (Kanun), Sébastien Marteau (Wind Instruments), Orestis Benekas (Synthesizers, Loops), Stratos Bichakis (Data Sonification, Modular Synthesizer), Vassilis Ntokakis (Electric Guitar, Synthesizers, Electronics), Stavros Parginos (Cello), Stelios Romaliadis (Flute), Sofia Sarri (Vocals) and Christos Chondropoulos (Drums, Percussion).
