The 6th Athens Open Air Film Festival will bid farewell to the summer in a special way. On August 30 the festival will travel the Saronic Gulf and specifically to the island of Aegina and is inviting film fans, residents and visitors to a special screening. The 1984 Oscar-winning masterpiece Amadeus, directed by Czech American filmmaker Milos Forman and written by Peter Shaffer, will hit the big screen at Cine Anesis for the first time in Greece after three decades. The story, set in Vienna, Austria, during the latter half of the 18th century, is a fictionalized biography of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Mozart’s music is heard extensively in the soundtrack of the movie. The film was nominated for 53 awards and received 40, which included eight Academy Awards (including Best Picture), four BAFTA Awards, four Golden Globes, and a Directors Guild of America (DGA) award. In 1998, the American Film Institute ranked Amadeus 53rd on its 100 Years… 100 Movies list. The free screenings of the 6th Athens Open Air Film Festival, which launched in June, are supported by the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), the Region of Attica and co-organized with the City of Athens Youth and Sport Organization (OPANDA). The festival won a Gold prize in the Tourism Awards 2015 in the Cultural Tourism category. Follow GTP Headlines on Google News to keep up to date with all the latest on tourism and travel in Greece.
