Photo: AIA Both domestic and international passengers demonstrated a strong increase of 10.8 percent and 9.6 percent, respectively. According to AIA, this favourable development was driven by the robust increase of both Greek residents and foreign visitors by 11 percent and 10 percent respectively. Overall, during the January-August 2016 period, the airport’s passenger traffic reached 13.4 million corresponding to an increase of 9.5 percent against the respective 2015 period, with domestic passengers growing by 12.2 percent and international travellers by eight percent. Both Greek and foreign travellers increased at the level of 14 percent and seven percent respectively. In addition, the number of flights to Athens Airport during the first eight months of the year reached 129.689, recording an increase of 7.6 percent. Both domestic flights and international flights rose at similar levels of 7.5 percent and 7.6 percent, respectively.
