Paros’ new airport allows airline companies to fly larger aircraft. According to an announcement on Wednesday, Olympic Air carried 18,725 passengers — three times more than in August 2015 — and supported the operation of the new airport by flying with larger aircraft, adding more frequencies and launching a direct connection with Thessaloniki. Also, in order for the island to gain momentum as a destination, the airline offered more than 10,000 seats in August at the price of 39 and 55 euros from Paros and Athens, respectively. “Results will be much more impressive in 2017 as we will have sufficient time for pre-sales and inter-connectivity with all of Aegean’s international network from Athens”, said Dimitris Gerogiannis, CEO of Aegean and Olympic Air. “The effective cooperation with the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority for the construction of the terminal, with funding and supervision by our company in just 102 days, is already delivering significant results”, he added. It is reminded that after the new runway of Paros’ airport was completed by the Greek government, Olympic Air financed the completion and operation of the passenger terminal and the infrastructure of the new airport on the island.
