Greek Airports See 8.1% Increase in Passengers in January-August

Athens_International_AirportPassenger traffic through Greece’s airports posted an increase of 8.1 percent year-on-year during the January-August period, the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority said on Tuesday. During the first eight months of the year, 37,368,155 people passed through the country’s airports.

The total number of flights at Greek airports during the January-August period reached 323,200 (of which 131,779 were domestic flights and 191,421 were international), up 3.4 percent (2 percent rise in domestic flights and 4.4 percent rise in international flights), compared to the corresponding period of 2015.

In August alone, 8.7 million passengers passed through Greek airports, a total increase of 6.5 percent compared to the same month last year.

The airports of Athens, Heraklion and Rhodes received the most passengers in August, according to the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority. Last month, Athens’ airport welcomed 2.36 million passengers, Heraklion’s passenger traffic amounted to 1.3 million and over one million passengers passed through Rhodes’ airport.
