Created in 1997, the annual World Routes Marketing Awards recognise excellence in airport and destination marketing. Airlines vote for the marketing services that support the successful launch of new routes or the development of existing ones, making them highly regarded in the aviation industry.

“I would like to thank the airlines, which once again, with their vote and confidence, brought us to the top”, AIA’s communications and marketing director, Ioanna Papadopoulou, said.

This is the 16th Routes distinction that Athens Airport has gained over the last 12 years, more than any other airport on a global level.

“With our passenger traffic on a positive course during the first eight months of the year, we continue, in close cooperation and dialogue with our airline partners, to deliver complete airport-style marketing programs, while systematically promoting our destination, Athens“, Ms Papadopoulou said.

“Our campaign entitled ‘Aviation Marketing delivered in a novel way’ expresses our effort to analyze the needs of each airline, to adapt our strategy accordingly and deliver innovative and pioneering programs to support airlines. With this approach, we believe that we are effectively and consistently supporting development plans and activities of airlines in our market.”

The World Routes Marketing Awards were held on the sidelines of the 22nd World Route Development Forum (World Routes 2016) hosted by Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport during September 24-27. The forum saw the attendance of some 3,500 aviation industry representatives from 300 airlines and 700 airports.
