Company updates Creta Maris Beach Resort Holds Emergency Evacuation Drill by GTP editing team 28 September 2016 written by GTP editing team 28 September 2016 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 7 Staff members and guests took part in an evacuation drill, enacting a virtual scenario, at the Creta Maris Beach Resort, in Hersonissos, Crete, on Tuesday, for the fifth year in a row. The resort conducted a drill based on the scenario of an earthquake that was followed by an explosion from a gas leak and a fire breakout in various areas of the resort. The scenario included the collapse of a section of the internal walls and injured people. The exercise lasted a total of 37 minutes and was supervised by Professor Efthimios Lekkas from the Geology and Geoenvironment Department of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens. The aim of the drill was to confirm the excellent preparedness of the resort’s fire safety team to ensure the safety of guests and staff in case of an emergency. In the context of the evacuation exercise, a lecture by Professor Lekkas took place the day before entitled “NaTech vs Hotels – Business planning for dealing with earthquakes and fires in a hotel’s environment”. The lecture was attended by Crete’s Regional Governor Stavros Arnaoutakis, Hersonissos Mayor Giannis Mastorakis, the president of the Pancretan & Association of Hotel Managers, Giorgos Pelekanakis and the head of Occupational Safety and Health Inspection of Heraklion, Michalis Maragakis. Moreover, the evacuation exercise was attended by the Police Department of Hersonissos, the Port Authority of Hersonissos, the National Centre for Emergency Care (EKAV), the medical center Cretan Medicare, the Fire Echelon of Hersonissos, the Regional Administration of Crete including the Fire Department of Heraklion & the Special Unit of Disaster Response (EMAK), the Hellenic Red Cross and the transport organization KTEL Heraklion-Lasithi. The Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) and the Civil Protection of Decentralized Administration of Crete participated as observers.
