Greece was the number one destination for TUI Austria this summer, the Austrian tour operator’s managing director Lisa Wedding said on Thursday while presenting the company’s new Greek destinations for 2017 which will be accessible via ten direct flights per week from Linz.

According to Wedding, TUI is confident that Greece’s success as a destination will continue in 2017.

tui_groupTUI’s ten weekly flights from Linz to Greece next year will include one to Karpathos via Austrian, one to Corfu via Austrian, two to Kos via Niki and Austrian, two to Rhodes via Niki and Austrian, two to Heraklio via Niki, one to Chania via Austrian and one to Zakynthos via Austrian.

A survey carried out by TUI in May found that Greece now leads Austrian travelers’ holiday destination choices. “Greece is this year the big winner for tourism in Austria, even if the booking levels for vacation on some islands of the Eastern Aegean is not as high as before,” TUI Austria had announced when the survey’s results were announced.

According to TUI’s Kathrin Limpel, overall, Greece has knocked Turkey out of the top spot in regards to bookings. Turkey this year is TUI’s fifth preferred destination.

Austria has traditionally been a leading market for Greek tourism with some 400,000 Austrians taking their holidays in Greece annually. Austria ranks first in terms of foreign tourist arrivals in Greece in proportion to its population of 8.5 million residents.
