Photo © kostasgr / Shutterstock The Region of Epirus will host a group of sports tourism professionals from Sweden, during a week-long familiarisation trip aimed at positioning Epirus as a leading thematic tourism destination. Photo © Region of Epirus The familiarisation trip, which will take place October 3-10 in cooperation with the Swedish travel agency Trawell, will give the 15 Swedish sports tourism professionals first hand insights into the array of activities that Epirus offers. Athletes, as well as manufacturers and distributors of sports bikes from Sweden, will accompany the group of professionals who are also specialists in the field of professional cycling. The group of Swedes, known for participating in a series of races and sports excursions mainly in South Europe (Italy and Spain), have chosen to visit Epirus to explore the possibilities of expanding their activities. On its part, the region is aiming for Epirus to become an ideal destination to host international cycling races and attract Swedish thematic holiday travellers. During the week-long fam trip, the Swedish sports tourism professionals will have the chance to uncover the region’s secret corners while travelling long distances on bicycles through Epirus’ key attractions — Zagorochoria, Vikos Gorge, Tzourmerka, Parga, Ioannina and Metsovo. In addition, the Swedish visitors will sample the traditional flavors of Epirus and get to know the region’s traditional hospitality and culture through visits to museums, archaeological sites and parallel activities. The Swedish travel agency Trawell specializes in thematic tourism and has been active for the past two years in Messinia, a Greek destination that every year is seeing its visitor numbers increase. Epirus is the second destination in Greece that the travel agency aims to expand its business.
