Greek Alternate Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura met with the heads of the ministry’s vocational training facilities — known as IEK — to discuss issues affecting public studies in tourism and set the agenda for the future.

The minister met with tourism department heads from public institutes of vocational training operating in Anavyssos, Thessaloniki, Peloponnese, Heraklion, Galaxidi, Alexandroupoli and Rhodes, who informed her of the schools’ needs in teaching staff and tabled proposals for the improved operation of the facilities as well as ideas for the updated curriculum which should cover the continuously changing tourism market. Additional issues included the promotion of tourism studies available through the ministry so that interested parties are aware of the public programs of study available in the tourism industry.

Kountoura said the proposals will be examined with the goal to include necessary changes in the ministry’s strategy on tourism education.
