Photo source: AIAGreek air traffic controllers have suspended strike action planned to begin on Sunday — to protest against new legislation involving the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority — after meeting with Transport Minister Christos Spirtzis on Saturday.

According to the union’s president, Serafim Petrou, after a “fruitful and constructive dialogue with the minister, we cleared up the hazy spots and will move towards suspending our strike.”

Later, the union’s board of directors announced that it would suspend the strike following commitments and clarifications by the government.

The air traffic controllers on Thursday had announced the launch of four 24-hour rolling strikes on Sunday. As a result, airlines were forced to cancel a number of international and domestic flights, which caused the reaction of the Greek tourism sector.
