In efforts to highlight the sea tourism options available in the Attica Region and see them included in international tour packages, local authorities are currently running a series of fam trips and promotional activities.

attica-fam-trip-aeginaSpecialist tour operators and journalists from Germany, Italy and the UK had the chance last month to sail the Saronic Gulf and visit the islands of Hydra, Spetses, Poros and Aegina, the major attractions there as well as sample the finest local wines and products. They also had the opportunity experience first hand the sea tourism infrastructure and offerings along the Athenian Riviera.

Attica Regional authorities, with the support of the Greek National Tourism Organization and relevant bodies, aim to demonstrate that the Attica region is an ideal getaway for travelers interested in gastronomy, culture and leisure primarily due to the short distances between the Saronic isles and mainland.

“The fam trips were an excellent opportunity to introduce Attica’s sea tourism options to leading yachting professionals,” said Eleni Dimopoulou, associate regional director for tourism promotion, Attica Region.

“It is our priority to move the spotlight away from the one-sided branding of Attica as only a city break destination and showcase the region’s diverse range of tourism options. Attica and Athens have a powerful advantage over other European capitals: the proximity to the sea and the beauty of its nearby destinations as well as the multiple possibilities available to visitors, including sailing, yachting, diving and other water sports.”
