On balance, during the January-September period, Austrian Airlines transported more than 8.6 million passengers, an increase of 3.2 percent from the prior-year period. The flight offering measured in available seat kilometers (ASK) climbed by 4.4 percent to more than 18.6 billion. Revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) sold by Austrian Airlines in the first nine months of 2016 rose 2.0 percent from the previous year to more than 14.3 billion. Capacity utilization fell slightly by 1.8 percentage points to 77.0 percent. In September alone, Austrian Airlines transported close to 1.2 million passengers, comprising a rise of 6.0 percent from the previous year. According to the airline, the number of flights in September 2016 rose by 7.2 percent to a total of 12,596 flights, mainly due to the expanded bilateral flight traffic between Austria and Germany.
