The Athens – Attica & Argosaronic Hotel Association, known for its contribution to the quality and competitiveness of tourism in Attica and the Agrosaronic islands, has signed a cooperation agreement with the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature (EEPF) to promote Greece’s natural wealth and sustainable practices in tourism. The agreement was signed on Thursday between the president of the Athens – Attica & Argosaronic Hotel Association, Alexandros Vassilikos and the chairman of the EEPF, Nikos Petrou. The hotel association and EEPF have joined forces under the common goal of protecting the natural environment — which is essential to tourism — and improving the quality of the tourism product by spreading environmental awareness to Greeks and visitors to Athens. Common goals also include establishing rules and ways to protect the environment through environmentally friendly practices that can be applied to hotels, but also through educating the public with specialized information. The two bodies hope that the cooperation will help highlight Greece’s special hospitality and promote environmentally friendly management practices to hotel units. EEPF, as a representative of the Foundation for Environmental Education oversees the environmental management awareness programs Green Key, which is aimed at tourist accommodation, restaurants and convention centers and the Blue Flag, which concerns the improvement of the quality of beaches, marinas and yachts.
