The Syros municipality clinched the first prize in the “Local Government Award for A’ and B’ Grade” for its proposal titled “Syros Municipality Actions and Initiatives Towards a Sustainable Future” and which included a set of actions, measures and projects for the management of solid waste and the protection of the environment implemented or to be implemented under the  running NSRF program for the 2014-2020 period.

Indicatively, actions focus on reducing the carbon footprint by promoting environmental innovation and sustainable development, the creation of a station for recyclable materials, the island’s participation in the ongoing “Life DeBag” program aiming to reduce the use of plastic bags by its residents, moving ahead with the energy upgrade of schools and municipal buildings for energy savings.
