Greece has signed a letter of intent, confirming that it has joined the countries that have signed up to participate in Expo 2020 Dubai. The letter was delivered to Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, president of the Expo 2020 Committee and Chairman and CEO of Emirates Airlines, by Alternate Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura on behalf of Greece’s Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras. Between October 2020 and April 2021, Dubai will host the next World Expo and bring together more than 180 nations and an international audience of 25 million visitors. The massive event will provide visitors with the chance to see spectacular architecture, merge with global cultures, examine thoughtful and thought provoking exhibitions, and taste food from every corner of the globe. Minister Elena Kountoura is currently in Dubai where she is attending a series of talks with leading political and economic factors of the United Arab Emirates. The Tourism Ministry is looking to break into the market of the United Arab Emirates to boost tourist arrivals as of next year. Greek Alternate Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura and UAE Minister of Economy Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri. In her meeting with Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Kountoura discussed the positive results of steps taken so far to strengthen the tourism relations between Greece and the United Arab Emirates. Moreover, the two discussed developing the direct air links between the two countries and focused on the prospects of tourism flows in 2017. Maktoum is also the president of the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority. In her meeting with UAE Minister of Economy Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri, Minister Kountoura confirmed Greece’s strong interest in strengthening bilateral business relations with UAE in the tourism sector. Their discussion focused on the significant opportunities available in Greece for attracting new tourism investments. The minister also met with representatives of investment groups and with UAE tour operators, including the vice president of Emirates Holidays Robin Parry, and discussed details involving the 2017 travel packages to Greece.
