Olympic Air to Fly Three Routes to Remote Greek Destinations

Olympic Air will serve three air routes to remote Greek destinations as of April 2017 and for four years: Athens – Milos, Athens – Naxos and Athens – Sitia. The carrier will not receive financial compensation for the three routes.

In efforts to ensure efficient airline service to remote islands and contribute to regional development, the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) had recently announced a call for interest in 10 air routes to remote areas in Greece for the April 1, 2017 – March 31, 2021 period.

Seven air routes to remote Greek destinations are still available and the HCAA is expected to proceed in mid-December with a tender for their operation for the April 1, 2017 – March 31, 2021 period, with financial compensation from the state.

The remaining seven routes are: Thessaloniki – Corfu, Thessaloniki – Skyros, Alexandroupolis – Sitia, Aktio – Sitia, Corfu – Aktio – Kefalonia – Zakynthos, Limnos – Mytilini – Chios – Samos – Rhodes, Rhodes – Kos – Kalymnos – Leros – Astypalaia.

The maximum amount of subsidies per year and per route, is set at 312,000 euros for Thessaloniki – Corfu, 260,000 euros for Thessaloniki – Skyros, 416,000 euros for Alexandroupoli – Sitia, 416,000 euros for Aktio – Sitia, 800,000 euros for Corfu – Aktio – Kefalonia – Zakynthos, 1,100,000 euros for Limnos – Mytilini – Chios – Samos – Rhodes and 800,000 euros for Rhodes – Kos – Kalymnos – Leros -Astypalaia.
