The town of Rethymno, on the island of Crete, was selected as part of the Federation of Hellenic Associations of Travel & Tourist Agencies (fedHATTA) “Dodeka” promotional program this month.

Translating into “12”, the “Dodeka” action plan includes itineraries for every month of the year, inviting holidaymakers to participate in everything from Olympic sports and street festivals to sailing Greek seas and walking the trails of the 12 mythological gods of Mt Olympus.

Rethymno comes after Tzoumerka in the “Dodeka” program which has included Athens, Thessaloniki, Naxos, Aegina, Delos, Ancient Olympia, Dodona and Pella as well as lesser-known destinations.

Tour agents had the chance to visit the Cretan town and its major landmarks as well as participate in a workshop with tourism professionals from Athens, Lesvos, Thessaloniki, Rhodes and Corfu, where they discussed sector issues and strengthened ties. The delegation also had the chance to learn more about the “Dodeka” initiative, the Thessaloniki Convention Bureau (TCB), fedHatta’s future actions including participation in international road shows in efforts to promote alternative forms of tourism in Greece, such as cycling, hiking and agrotourism.
