All 17 luxury member hotels of the Mitsis group, located in Athens, Rhodes, Kos, Crete and Kamena Vourla, have been awarded with the eco-label “Green Key” certification. Green Key is an international voluntary eco-label for tourism facilities that promotes sustainable tourism. It aims to contribute to the prevention of climate change by awarding and advocating facilities with positive environmental initiatives. Being recognised by Green Key represents the Mitsis Hotels group’s ambitious work in the area of environment and sustainability. Galini Resort, Kamena Vourla. “Our group, focusing on the needs of the modern visitor and the latest international standards, continuously develops its product by offering to the Greek tourism market added value, robust service and a comprehensive hotel mix of premium, luxury, city and resort, all-inclusive and half-board hotels”, the group’s CEO, Stavros Mitsis, said in announcement. The Green Key label is based on international criteria and involves the environmental management and education of tourism enterprises. Among other things, the Green Key criteria includes staff involvement in informing customers, waste management, Corporate Social Responsibility actions and green activities. The international coordinator and manager of the “Green Key” program is the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and national coordinator of the program for Greece is the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature. “Ecology means economy and vice versa. Through the suggested practices, a significant reduction in operating costs is possible, an issue which nowadays concerns all businesses. In no case does saving mean reducing the quality of the tourism product”, said Natassa Antonopoulou, Green Key National Coordinator. Mitsis Hotels involvement with the Green Key program is part of the group’s green growth strategy, which aims to boost the best ecological practices within the Greek tourism market. The group will announce results from the implementation of the program at the end of the 2017 season.
