The Federation of the Hellenic Associations of Tourist & Travel Agencies (fedHATTA) has signed a cooperation agreement with the Thessaloniki Convention Bureau (TCB) aiming to promote Greece’s second largest city Thessaloniki as a conference tourism destination. The agreement was signed between fedHATTA’s president Lysandros Tsilidis and TCB’s president Despina Amarantidou during a special event held on the sidelines of the Philoxenia international tourism exhibition, which opened on Friday. According to the agreement, the two bodies will work together to establish a framework of cooperation for the development of conference tourism and create the necessary synergies for the promotion of Thessaloniki as a conference destination to markets abroad. Operating for the past 2.5 years, the TCB already counts 35 members and has participated in 44 promotional activities for Thessaloniki’s conference tourism. According to TCB’s president Despina Amarantidou, the intense interest of foreign buyers for Thessaloniki as a conference destination is reflected through the bureau’s increased website traffic and the large number of RFP’s (Request for Proposals) submitted. As a business event destination of choice in Europe, Greece is currently in the 13th place on the ICCA (International Congresses and Conventions Association) rankings list. On a global ranking, Greece is in the 26th place. Follow GTP Headlines on Google News to keep up to date with all the latest on tourism and travel in Greece.
