Air Travel Lufthansa Pilot Strike Extended, Hundreds of Flights Cancelled by GTP editing team 23 November 2016 written by GTP editing team 23 November 2016 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 11 German airline Lufthansa has announced the cancellation of 912 flights scheduled for Thursday, November 24, as the Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) union has extended its strike action by another 24 hours. “Tomorrow, a total of 912 flights, including 82 intercontinental flights, will be cancelled due to the extended strike, affecting another 115,000 passengers”, the airline said in an announcement. On Wednesday, the first day of the strike, Lufthansa cancelled almost 900 flights. “Overall, more than 215,000 passengers will be affected by about 1,800 flight cancellations on the two strike days”, Lufthansa said. The pilot union called Wednesday’s strike due to a long-running dispute with management over wages. Lufthansa’s pilots say they have gone without a pay rise for more than five years and are asking for an average annual increase of 3.7 percent. “Lufthansa has called on VC once more to look for a joint solution to the labour dispute instead of rushing into an additional escalation”, the airline’s announcement read. Lufthansa has requested for all its customers to check the status of their flight on LH.com before travelling to the airport and will also be notifying passengers of potential flight cancellations by e-mail or SMS. Customers can also call the airline’s free hotline at 0800 850 60 70 for information (free from German landlines).
