Greek ferry company Golden Star Ferries has added the ultra modern Speedrunner IV to its fleet, after acquiring the vessel from Aegean Speed Lines. The vessel will be renamed to Superunner and begin serving routes in the Cyclades island group as of April 2017, after its annual inspection. The vessel is expected to strengthen Golden Star Ferries’ network and give the company the opportunity to further develop its route network. “With the purchase of this ship, the company establishes its position in the Greek passenger ferry market and aims to expand its presence in new destinations”, Golden Star Ferries said. The announcement follows the addition of the new Superferry to the company’s fleet in July 2016. “We are taking a step further by adding this reliable and widely known vessel (Speedrunner IV) to our fleet”, the company said. The Speedrunner IV has a carrying capacity of 810 passengers and 160 cars and provides speed up to 34 knots. Its overall length is 100.5 m; its width is 17.12 m; and the draft is 4.45 m. Golden Star Ferries currently operates ferry services from Rafina port to the Aegean islands of Andros, Tinos, Mykonos, Paros and Naxos with its Superferry and Superferry II vessels.
