travelport_logoTravelport, a leading travel commerce platform, on Thursday announced the appointment of Erik van Markus as its Country General Manager for the Netherlands.

In his new role, which he recently started, Erik is responsible for driving Travelport’s strategy and customer delivery in the Netherlands, ensuring existing and prospective customers have continued access to Travelport’s industry leading travel content and innovative technology to help grow their businesses.

With over 15 years experience in the travel industry, Erik has previously held a number of senior commercial, customer-facing roles including management positions at both Carlson Wagonlit Travel and ATPI.

Erik commented: “I am thrilled to be joining the Travelport team at such an exciting time in its evolution. Travelport’s transition to a travel commerce platform has demonstrated real leadership and innovation in the industry and the solutions and products now available to our customers are allowing them to be more efficient, more effective and more customer-focussed than ever before. I am looking forward to bringing my passion for travel and technology to this new role for the benefit of our customers.”

Last year, Travelport appointed Kurt Bostyn as its new Country General Manager for Belgium and Luxemburg. Marco Van Ieperen, Travelport’s Regional Managing Director for the Benelux region, who led the executive search, will leave the company in March next year following a smooth transition.  Both Erik and Kurt will report into Simon Ferguson who heads up Travelport’s operations across Northern Europe.

In an announcement, Travelport’s managing director for Northern Europe, Simon Ferguson, thanked Marco for his long service to the company and important contribution in establishing Travelport in the BeNeLux region.

Welcoming Eric to his regional leadership team, Ferguson said: “He brings extensive, relevant experience and I’m convinced he will add real value to Travelport’s customers in the Netherlands, as Kurt is already doing in Belgium. I am excited by the year ahead, as is the new team, and confident we can do a lot to help our customers in this part of Europe.”
