It is the first-ever route to the Greek mainland by Jet2.com, which provides flights from nine UK bases across England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Its connections to Thessaloniki will begin in May 2017, and will operate on a twice-weekly basis to Manchester Airport, as well as once-weekly returns to Edinburgh, Leeds and East Midlands. Jet2.com already flies to six Greek island resorts in Rhodes, Zakynthos, Corfu, Kos, Kefalonia and Crete, and operates package holidays through its sister company Jet2holidays. Package breaks will be extended to resorts in and around Halkidiki as part of the all-new Thessaloniki connection. Jet2holidays has partnered with over 30 hotels in the area to provide holidays to British customers, including free transfers between airports and accommodation. The decision is part of an ambitious expansion plan, as Jet2.com and Jet2holidays’ biggest-ever flights and package holidays programme takes their summer 2017 season to over 38,000 flights – seven million seats across its fleet of Boeing aircraft. In September, Jet2.com took delivery of a new 737-800 aircraft – the first of batch of 30 brand-new planes from the Boeing Renton Factory in Seattle, Washington, which are aiding its ambitious plans for growth. Thessaloniki is one of two new connections for Jet2.com in summer 2017. The company also announced a new route to Costa de Almeria, its 14th Spanish destination and the seventh in mainland Spain, which will start in April 2017 and will be connected to five UK airports. Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, said: “This is going to be our biggest and best programme yet, giving our customers even more choice and two fantastic new places to visit. With our continued expansion, we’re thrilled that even more people will be able to experience our great value holidays and award winning flights.” Follow GTP Headlines on Google News to keep up to date with all the latest on tourism and travel in Greece.
