Passenger traffic at Greek airports during the first 11 months of the year surged to a high of 51.5 million, according to data released by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority on Thursday. Passenger numbers in January to November totalled 51,456,423 compared to the same month last year, a significant increase of 9.7 percent. The data suggests that 2016 will close with record passenger traffic numbers in Greek airports. Moreover, the data revealed that the total passenger traffic from January to November 2016 exceeded last year’s numbers for the whole year. Last year, 49,177,990 passengers were handled in Greek airports. In November alone, Greek airports handled 2,141,104 passengers, recording a 9.4 percent rise compared with the same month of 2015. The Greek airports with the most passenger traffic are those in Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Chania and Rhodes. The airport that recorded the highest growth in passenger traffic during the first 11 months of 2016 is Paros airport, which recorded a 67.8 percent increase. Fights According to the data, during the first eleven months of 2016, the total number of flights at Greek airports amounted to 439,844 (of which 177,154 were domestic and 262,690 international), an increase of 3.8 percent, compared to the same period of 2015 (423,737 flights).
