A variety of bakery products are offered, including traditional and whole-wheat bread, rye rusks, olive rusks of Kythera and freshly baked orange and cinnamon cookies with nuts and sesame. Also available are local Greek cheeses from regional cheese dairies (Petropoulos), such as gruyere, kefalograviera, kasseri, sfela, manouri and feta; and tangy Mani sausage with orange and traditional Mani siglino (smoked pork) with sage. Visitors can also sample traditional delicacies such as lalagia (local Mani bread sticks fried in olive oil), travixtes (local traditional Mani pie fried in olive oil, from leavened dough) and sweet trahana (soup from cracked wheat that has been soaked in milk and then dried in the sun) boiled in milk with yogurt and raisins. Petra & Fos Boutique Hotel & Spa has the “Greek Breakfast” certification. The breakfast buffet includes traditional strained yogurt, sheep’s milk yogurt, low-fat (2%) yogurt, fruit salad with freshly cut fruits in orange juice, almonds, walnuts, hazels, black Corinthian raisins, golden raisins from Kalamata, dried fruits — such as Kalamata and Mani figs, apricots, dates, plums — and other seasonal fresh fruit. The buffet also has homemade jams (orange, strawberry, apple, chestnut, etc.), thyme honey and flower honey by the region’s local producers, tahini sauce, hazelnut paste (Nutela), fresh olive oil, green cracked Mani olives, Kalamata olives, cherry tomatoes and homemade pies, such as traditional Mani cheese-pie with local cream cheese, manouri cheese, feta cheese, fennel and handmade dough as well as spinach-pie with fresh vegetables and handmade dough. Guests should also try the various dishes of eggs (cooked in different ways) such as boiled, fried, omelet with siglino (smoked pork with hints of orange), tomato, gruyere and peppers and strapatsada (Greek scrambled eggs) with fresh tomato. In regards to dessert, guests with a sweet tooth will find orange cake with olive oil and fruits, chocolate cake with olive oil, apple pie, local traditional pasteli (Greek sesame bars with honey or with nuts), halva, rice pudding with local sheep or goat milk. Breakfast at Petra & Fos includes fresh branded milk with cereal (corn, chocolate, All Bran), Muesli, a variety of teas and herbs gathered from the mountain of Mani, Taygetus and freshly squeezed orange juice from organic local farms.
