According to the study “Employment in tourism and the rest of the economy in 2009- 2016”, those employed directly and indirectly in tourism in Greece are approaching 800,000 and the number has the potential to exceed one million by 2021. Data by SETE Intelligence shows that the number of employees in the tourism sector, during the high season, exceeds the 10 percent of the country’s total workforce (and reaches that percentage during the low season). During the last three years (2014-2016) the increase of employment in tourism exceeds the sector’s revenue growth and follows the trend of increasing arrivals. Moreover, the tourism industry supports 18 to 30 percent of jobs in three island regions (Ionian, South Aegean and Crete).
