TTG Says Greece Top Search for Summer Travel

It may still be snowing in most of Europe, but eager holidaymakers are making plans for the summer ahead and Greece appears to be a favourite choice, according to UK travel magazine TTG.

Greece is thus far the most searched-for destination for this summer, accounting for 17 percent of all Christmas weekend searches for 2017 package holiday destinations at Thomas Cook, the Travel Trade Gazette (TTG) said last week. To meet the demand, Cook has boosted its all-inclusive deals by 20 percent (excluding Turkey, Egypt and Tunisia).

Greece topped the searches by thomascook.com users on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, accounting for 17 percent of all searches – followed by the Canary Islands, the Balearics and Spain, which overall accounted for 36 percent. Turkey came far behind at fifth most popular search.

Thomas Cook said the figures point to an increasing popularity of all-inclusive package deals in the year ahead, and added that it “highlighted the trend we identified in October, that more holidaymakers will opt for an all-inclusive holiday in 2017, in particular for destinations such as Greece and the Canaries, which haven’t traditionally been recognized for their all-inclusive offering”.
