Established in 2015, the Hellas Filmbox Berlin festival casts the spotlight on contemporary Greek film productions aiming to bring the German audience closer to Greece and its culture, the true side of which is rarely portrayed in local media. “We would like to start a constructive dialogue between Greece and Germany by highlighting the current emotional and political cracks between the two,” says festival director Asteris Kutulas and founder of the German-Greek Cultural Association. “Films in general trigger a range of opinions which is the best starting point for any discussion.” Through the Hellas Filmbox Berlin festival, organizers aim to provide insight into Greece’s current situation, its people, inner conflicts and secrets… through the eyes of its filmmakers’’. ”Greek films have far more to say about the crisis happening in Greece than daily German newspapers,’’ they say.
