According to a recent survey carried out by TUI Group, the world’s largest travel operator, Saturdays in January are the busiest booking days of the year with people reserving their holiday deals in efforts to cope with the winter blues. The first Saturday of January — aka “Sunshine Saturday” — is the busiest day for holiday bookings in the UK and the second Saturday for Germany. Indicatively, on January 7 more than 27,500 TUI customers in the UK booked their annual holiday with an all-time high of almost one million visiting a TUI store or website. Holiday spots topping their choices? Spain, Greece and Italy. TUI Germany clients prefer Spain, Greece and Italy with top destinations including the Balearics, Corfu and Rhodes. Spain and Greece are also main choices for Dutch travelers as is Portugal and Italy. Cape Verde and Curacao come next. In Austria, Greece takes the lead. The survey found that Mediterranean beach holidays are still the most popular holiday desire particularly among British tourists. More exotic destinations include Jamaica, Mexico, Mauritius, Seychelles, the Dominican Republic as well as Indonesia. New York continues to be a leading city break destination. According to TUI, more than half of all holidays booked for this year (53 percent) will be all-inclusive with 43 percent of all online bookings made in the UK on January 7 via mobile devices, a four percent rise compared to last year. his year.
