Event News GR80s: Athens Takes a Journey to the Greek 80s at Technopolis Expo by GTP editing team 18 January 2017 written by GTP editing team 18 January 2017 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 8 Athens will take a walk down memory lane and revive the history, the culture and the atmosphere of the 1980s, in an partnership between the Technopolis City of Athens and the Onassis Cultural Centre. Photographs, clothes, viewmasters, radio cassete players, music records, disco balls, toys, pieces of furniture, the walkman and much more will be on display in the exhibition called “GR80s. Greece in the Eighties at Technopolis”, which will open on January 25 and run until March 12. “GR80s. Greece in the Eighties at Technopolis” is an original historical journey through the 80s which aims to immerse visitors in a unique re-enactment experience. According to the organizers, the 80s represent an idealized era, characterized by upward social mobility and prosperity, but they also symbolize the beginning of a long process that has lead to the current crisis. “The aim of this event is not to create feelings of nostalgia for the past nor to point the finger at the supposed culprits — Rather, it is an effort to record and recreate a complex and many-faceted period of modern history, which has left its mark on the current generations and may well define the future ones”, the organizers say. Visitors will be introduced to the Greek 80s through a course of four thematic categories — politics, arts, lifestyle and technology — arranged within 18 pavilions. Moreover, numerous events will take place throughout the duration of the exhibition, such as art exhibitions, concerts, theatrical performances, cultural happenings, scientific conferences and lectures, and educational workshops. The “journey through the 80s” is expected to be very realistic as a large part of the exhibits are from volunteers who lent authentic objects of the decade for the exhibition. The “GR80s. Greece in the Eighties at Technopolis” exhibition is organized by Technopolis City of Athens, with a parallel program of events at the Onassis Cultural Centre and in collaboration with important national and international scientific and cultural institutions. Hours open: Tuesday-Friday: 12 noon until 8pm – Saturday & Sunday: 10am until 10pm. Entrance fee: 5 euros. Tours for groups and schools are available. For further information, press here.
