The extensive scheme includes the creation and production of promotional material, boosting the digital presence of the island’s tourism enterprises, creating an online community, collaborating with local and international media and distribution channels, as well as offering services including seminars and workshops which will aid local professionals in upgrading the quality of services offered. Besides collaborating with the private sector, a top priority for the association is to work with the public sector, including municipal and regional authorities, chambers of commerce and hoteliers, as well as with the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO). Topping the agenda is creating a strong brand name for the island taking Syros from a mere location in the Aegean to a leading destination. ”It is vital that we have the best possible outcome for our members with a very limited budget,” said Christiana Papitsi, president of the association, adding that ”we will seek the widest possible cooperation with all local actors in order through joint actions to develop the appropriate destination branding for Syros raising awareness among travelers from Greece and abroad’’.
