Signs are Encouraging for Tourism in Greece, SETE says

The state of Greece’s tourism sector and its prospects in 2017 were analyzed during a meeting on Thursday between the President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos and a delegation from the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE), headed by its president, Andreas Andreadis.

“We informed the President that signs are very encouraging”, Andreadis said after the meeting.

“Everything indicates that tourism, the most important development pillar of the country, this year may bring impressive results”, SETE’s president said and called on the government to proceed with the  agreement with the country’s creditors in order to preserve peacefulness and the country’s good functioning.

According to SETE, if these conditions are met, tourism this year could give contribute at least one additional unit to the country’s GDP.

“The contribution of tourism can make a difference this year… Let us all take it very seriously”, Andreadis said.

Seat availability to Greek regional airports up 6%

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Andreadis tweeted that the availability of airline seats to regional airports in Greece (not concerning Athens International Airport) from foreign markets this year will increase by six percent to one million over 2016.

Citing InSETE data, Andreadis referred to a positive indication for the 2017 season but underlined that provisional schedules of carriers had originally planned for 3.5 million seats this year.

Andreadis said that the seat growth slowdown, among other things, is due to the merging of flights by several airlines.
