Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura on Friday called on sector professionals and the country’s productive forces to cooperate more closely to strengthen tourism in Greece, a key pillar for economic development and social welfare of the country.

“I address all of you in the Greek tourism business community, in this time of strong dynamics and opportunities, to continue our cooperation for the competitiveness of our tourist product and the development of tourism that will generate additional income to local communities and strengthen our national economy”, Minister Kountoura said while presenting the ministry’s development policy for Greek tourism during the 6th General Assembly of the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels.

“Once again I will stress that tourism is a national issue and concerns us all”, the minister said.

During her speech, Minister Kountoura referred to the record tourist arrivals recorded over the last two years as a “success of Greece”, which resulted from the ministry’s national four-year tourism policy and close cooperation with the country’s regions, local authorities, chambers, tourism bodies and the private sector.

The minister appeared confident about this year’s tourism season, underlining that a double-digit increase in pre-bookings has already been recorded to date.

Moreover, Minister Kountoura referred to the strong demand recorded for new tourism investments in Greece over the last two years and noted that the ministry aims to improve the “everyday life” of  enterprises and boost the competitiveness of the sector.

The 6th General Assembly of the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels was held on the first day of the 12th International Hotel, Restaurant and Cafe Show HORECA at the Metropolitan Expo Center in Athens.

After the general assembly, Minister Kountoura cuts the inauguration ribbon of the HORECA 2017 exhibition in the presence of prominent personalities from the Greek tourism, food service and hospitality sectors.
