The Sofitel Athens Airport hotel is set to undergo extensive modernization works in the upcoming period, operator Mitsis Hotels & Resorts announced during the launch last week of the Mesogaia restaurant.

The hotel upgrade is scheduled to be carried out over the next two years and budgeted at 4 million euros. As part of it current investment program, Mitsis Group shareholder Tzeni Mitsi also said plans included expanding operations to Mykonos with the construction of a tourist complex of apartments and suites with a 100-bed capacity there.

Mitsi added that she expects a positive year ahead and said based on pre-booking data, the number of arrivals from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Poland are set to rise.

Besides Sofitel Athens Airport, which recently received booking.com’s Guest Review Award 2016 after achieving top review scores for its hospitality services, Mitsis Hotels, founded in 1976, operates 17 hotels across Greece.
