Photo © Region of South Aegean The Municipality of Paros announced this week the launch of a campaign aiming to promote celebrating Easter on the Cycladic island. In order to push the campaign in main markets, the municipal authorities are working with Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) offices across the globe as well as with local tour operators and agencies and international media. Among the highlights of the Parian Easter festivities are Holy Week, the Epitaphios procession on Holy Friday at Parikia (the capital) as well as the Resurrection service at the imposing Panagia Ekatontapiliani (or ”the church of a hundred gates’’), overlooking the harbor. Easter services take place across the island’s churches and chapels and visitors will have the chance besides the religious aspect of the holiday to participate in the culture and traditions of the island. The Easter celebrations will peak with the Easter Sunday feast to include plenty of food, song and dance, while ushering in spring.
