In efforts to attract more incoming tourism to the region and increase stays as well as extend the tourism season, the Thessaloniki Hotels Association announced plans to reach out to the ever-growing market of Serbia with new ideas, experiences and deals.

More than 800,000 Serb travelers visited Central Macedonia last year, and the THA aims to attract even more after gaining insight into their needs and habits at the annual International Fair of Tourism (ITTFA) held February 23-26 in Belgrade.

Serb travelers appear to have a soft spot for the northern port city of Thessaloniki, they prefer sea and sun, religious tourism, city breaks and shopping. For the most part they are repeat-visitors. In 2016, Serb visitors made 51,928 overnight stays, down by 9.87 percent compared to 2015; the THA aims to reverse this trend.

During the ITTFA, the THA met with tour operators and hospitality industry representatives to promote Thessaloniki as a prime tourist destination underlining the easy access, direct flights, its shopping district, local cuisine, history, culture, amenities as well as destinations nearby.
