The Tourism Ministry and representatives from Greek islands that experienced a string of negative publicity due to refugee flows — such as Kos, Samos, Lesvos and Chios — will coordinate their actions to promote each destination’s unique tourism offerings to target markets for the 2017 season. During a meeting held on Monday at the tourism ministry in Athens, chaired by Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura, island representatives listed their proposals and priorities for the tourism product of each destination. “The ministry and the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) will examine the proposals and offer further support for the planning and implementation of actions for the overall international tourism promotion of the Northern and Southern Aegean islands”, the ministry said in an announcement. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Regions of North and South Aegean, local authorities, hoteliers associations, chambers and the secretary general of the GNTO, Dimitris Tryfonopoulos.
