Mass Reading of Homer’s ‘The Odyssey’ for European Latin & Greek Fest

Greece will be participating in this year’s mass reading of The Odyssey, marking the 11th year of the European Festival of Latin and Greek, at the National Archaeological Museum of Athens on March 24 at 11am.

Greece joins the Europe-wide public reading of The Odyssey, which will bring together hundreds of people in France and abroad for the Odyssee 24 event organized by the Lyon-based European Festival of Latin and Greek.

The event features the public reading of parts of Homer’s epic poem dating back to the end of the 8th century BC in 46 languages by over 157 groups in 26 countries and 150 cities. The aim of the event is to unite cultures through ancient Greek civilization.

For Athens’ participation at the National Archaeological Museum amid ancient Greek sculptures, 30 students will recite in both ancient and modern Greek Rhapsody A of The Odyssey to the accompaniment of the lyre.

Teachers, students, booksellers, librarians, theatre-goers, or literature lovers are invited to set up their own group of readers and choose a public space where they will read The Odyssey in the language of choice.
