The Greek islands of Crete, Rhodes and Kos are among the 10 most popular summer holiday destinations for Germans this year, according to a study by VIR (Verband Internet Reisevertrieb – Internet Travel Sales Association).

VIR announced the results after having examined all summer holiday bookings already made online by German holidaymakers.

The most popular destination for the upcoming summer vacations of the Germans is Mallorca, followed by Antalya –  due to the good price-performance ratio – and Heraklion, Crete.

The fourth top destination for German travellers this year is Gran Canaria, the third-largest island in the Canaries’ archipelago, followed by Hurghada in Egypt, Rhodes and Fuerteventura, one of the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Africa.

The top 10 wraps up with Tenerife, Kos and Burgas in Bulgaria.

According to a survey by the Statistical Office of Germany, the majority of Germans (almost 80 percent) book their holiday trip three months in advance.
