In an article titled “Greece Ahead of a Record Summer Season”, Die Welt noted that although the Balearic Islands are consistently first in the preferences of German tourists, Greece is taking “big steps” to cover the difference.

Citing figures from German research company GfK regarding the destination preferences of German holidaymakers this year, the newspaper said that Greece is recording record growth of almost 70 percent while bookings are also up for Bulgaria by 33 percent and Croatia by 36 percent. Cyprus and Morocco are also among the travel preferences of the Germans this year.

On the other hand, Turkey, once a favorite destination of the Germans after Mallorca, will see its tourism industry take a hit due to the country’s political situation and recent confrontations with various EU countries.
