Greece condemned the attack that took place in central Stockholm on Friday, during which a lorry crashed into pedestrians, killing four people and wounding 15 others.

“The Foreign Ministry unequivocally condemns the barbaric terrorist attack that was carried out today in Stockholm and resulted in the death and injury of innocent citizens. We address our deep condolences to the victims’ loved ones and wish the injured a speedy recovery.”

Meanwhile, a homemade bomb has reportedly been found in the lorry. According to public broadcaster SVT, the device was found in a bag and had not been detonated.

Prime Minister Stefan Lofven declared Monday a national day of mourning, with a minute of silence at noon.

The last attack made in Stockholm was in 2010, when an Iraqi-born Swede committed suicide when he detonated two bombs days before Christmas.

Update

According to international press reports, the Swedish police have arrested a 39-year-old from Uzbekistan believed to have hijacked the lorry and driven it into the crowd of people.

During a news conference on Saturday, Sweden’s police chief Dan Eliason said authorities did not know whether others were involved in the attack. “We cannot exclude this,” he said.

On Sunday, Swedish prosecutors announced the arrest of a second person possibly connected with the attack. No further information has been released.
